3XL – Community Project

Both XL Groups in 3rd year at Oban High School have recently worked together in planning and organising a Coffee Morning for the welcoming of our American visitors.  As this is the 20th year of the Oban/Laurinburg exchange they wanted to make it special.  The group worked together in ensuring that the Americans first impression of Oban High School was as warm and friendly as possible.

Part of this was carried out by designing an Oban/ Laurinburg Banner.  Each class was designated a town and they had to decide what was significant to representing their town on the banner.  For the group that were doing the Laurinburg side this involved a lot of research in the library.  When the banner was completed it was hung at the front of the school for everyone to see.  When they completed the banner they then made each person who would attend the coffee morning a name badge.

The planning of the event involved booking the hall, talking to the janitors, borrowing cups and saucers etc., talking to canteen staff, inviting along some of our very talented students to participate; dancers Rebecca Warnock and Chelsea Higgins, piper James MacPherson and accordionist Finlay Sinclair. The XL pupils also brought some delicious home baking in for the guests to enjoy, along with tea, coffee and IrnBru.

The coffee morning was a great success.  Everyone involved went that extra mile to ensure that the Americans were made to feel welcome and entertained in a traditionally Scottish fashion!
